The "Coming Home" outfit

I was reading an article today about a Mom who spent countless hours choosing what outfit her new baby will come home from the hospital in.
Some advice I would like to offer to new moms who are getting prepared for this exciting event as well -
One: Don't spend hours choosing an outfit to bring your baby home in. Use that time to sleep.
Two: If you do spend hours choosing the perfect outfit, might as well spend a few more hours choosing a second outfit, just in case your experience goes like ours did...

In the moments leading up to our grand exodus out of the hospital, we spent 30 minutes getting Adeleigh dressed in the yellow onesie and bow that I had spent hours deciding upon and had especially picked out for her first introduction to the outside world.

There's a screaming baby under there.

Peace for now.

Our nurse wheeled me outside while Phaeton ran to get the car. Right when he pulled up, I felt something happening on my arm. Adeleigh had her first explosion right on me. She must've gotten so excited to see the sun for the first time that she wanted to share it with the world, or at least share it with my arm. I mean, I was excited to see the sun for the first time in days too, but I didn't need to announce it, at least not that way.
I asked our nurse what to do. She just laughed. I asked Phaeton what to do. He said, "I guess we just go home." Right. I asked our nurse to come with us and show us what to do once we got home. She just laughed again. I guess we had to figure this one out on our own.

Three: No matter how much you're paying for excellent post-baby nursing care, nurses can't come home with you, no matter how much you beg.

  1. Sweet story :) I remember excitedly picking out a special outfit to bring my sweetie home in too, only for it to not fit her and be way too big! Luckily, I did bring a back-up, which she was swimming in as well, but it was a little snugger than my first choice (an outfit she never even got to wear, mind you!). Oh, and she screamed and howled the whole time I was dressing and undressing her. It was my first nerve-wrecking experience with my newborn...minus the delivery of course.

Thanks for linking up at Sweet Saturday, now following back :)

  2. Ha, this is great! Well, I'm sure it wasn't at the time, but the post is great. :) I'm pretty sure neither of our boys made it home in their designated "going home" outfits either. Sure makes for good memories...Thanks for linking up with Sweet Saturday!
