Four years

It's after 11pm on August 1, 2011. Today is our 4th wedding anniversary. The baby is asleep. Phaeton is watching some show with space aliens, 80's music and a guy with his pretty pretty hair pulled back in a ponytail. I should be getting ready for bed, but it's just so comfortable here. Even when we're not doing anything exciting, it's just nice to be in each other's company. There's not a lot of space around here, so it's easy to not be lonely. And that's one thing we love about living in a one-bedroom condo. Everyone is all so near. It's cozy.
We are trying to recall some of the funny moments in our relationship. The ones where, when we look back, the laughing brings us to tears. Like the time where I woke from a dead sleep and started screaming "Fire! Fire!" Phaeton jumped out of bed in his skivvies and ran into the living room. Ran back and yelled some obscenities my way, then crawled back into bed and put his earplugs in. For the record, I remember waking up and truly thinking I saw orange flames and smoke coming from the front room. Oops.
Or the time where, once again while sleeping, I carried on a full conversation with Phaeton about how he needed to immediately go find me some napkins because I was drooling all over the place. We don't even own any napkins. We're a paper towel kinda family. Phaeton told me all about our convo the next day. How sweet of him that at 2am, he actually contemplated going to the store to buy me some napkins. If that's not true love, I don't know what is...
...........
We met while both working at Barnes and Noble. He was my boss. I was a seasonal bookseller. Following the Holiday season, he had the option of choosing one seasonal to work in his cafe. He chose me.
My first night training in the cafe, I asked my boss if he was going to ask me out for Valentine's Day. He turned around, stuck his hand in the sanitizer bucket and kept it there for awhile. No response. I guess I caught him off guard? Then I handed him my phone number and he said, "I don't know if I can call you." What a responsible supervisor he was. So I said, "I'm not asking you out on a date or anything, I'm just giving you my number. Do with it what you want." He called me that night and asked me out for Valentine's Day. I guess he was planning to all along. :) We went to Mugs until they closed, then down the street to Waffle House to eat some hashbrowns and talk until 3 in the morning.

Now we have a baby, an almost one-year-old to share those experiences with. When I see Phaeton with our daughter, I'm more and more grateful that he called me that night. He's a wonderful Dad. A wonderful husband. Our days just get better and bigger and cozier. And now Phaeton's show is over, so we're gonna go brush our teeth.
